La Fiesta Mexicana

H. Owen Reed has subtitled La Fiesta Mexicana “A Mexican Folk Song Symphony in Three Movements”: Prelude and Aztec Dance, Mass, and Carnival. Each movement vividly portrays the elements that comprise the Mexican Fiesta. As Reed explains, “The Mexican ‘Fiesta,’ which is an integral part of the social structure, is a study in contrasts: it is both serious and comical, festive and solemn, devout and pagan, boisterous and tender.
